Intro

 Nowadays, homemade cold- and hot-pressed cooking oil is very popular around the world. Oil made through pure physical pressing keeps natural taste and nutrition, which sells well to local families, restaurants and grocery shops. Many seed growers and new business owners want to run their own small oil processing workshop to cut raw material costs and start a profitable oil business.

It does not take much money to build a mini oil workshop. The two most essential machines you need are lerford seed roasting pots and our full line oil presses. This post shares practical info including usable oil seeds, matching machine types, the full oil-making workflow, tips to improve oil quality, and real overseas customer cases for your reference.

1. Common Oil Seeds Suitable for Small Workshop

Our roaster and oil press work with almost all regular oil-bearing seeds. These raw materials are easy to source locally and cost less during harvest seasons:

High-volume oil seeds: peanut, rapeseed, sunflower seed, soybean, palm kernel

High-value special seeds: olive, coconut, sesame, walnut, avocado, flaxseed

You can roast seeds with our roaster for fragrant hot-pressed oil, or skip roasting to make cold-pressed oil to fit different market demands.

Core Machines: Lerford Seed Roaster & Oil Press Series

Seed roasting pot and oil press are must-have gear for any small oil workshop. Lerford offers multiple models to match different daily output and budget levels.

2.1 Lerford Oil Seed Roasting Pot (Pretreatment Machine)

The roaster handles seed heating before pressing, which directly lifts oil yield and improves oil flavor.

Heating options: electric, gas or biomass fuel; fits areas with different power supply conditions worldwide;

Food-grade stainless steel touches all seeds, with built-in stirring blades for even heating and simple temperature adjustment;

Working temperature ranges from 80℃ to 130℃. Proper roasting softens seed texture and makes oil release easier;

Small footprint, one worker can finish feeding, stirring and discharging without extra helpers.

2.2 lerford Oil Press Machine Series

We have four main types of oil presses to meet different workshop needs:

Semi-automatic screw oil press: low cost, simple structure, few breakdowns, best for new small workshop starters;

Fully automatic integrated oil press: comes with built-in temperature control and simple filtering, cuts labor work for medium daily production;

Hydraulic oil press: creates strong low-temperature pressure, perfect for cold pressing walnut, olive, and sesame high-end oil;

Full stainless steel oil press: all parts contacting oil and seeds use stainless steel, meets strict food safety rules, widely exported to Israel and Middle East countries.

Optional Auxiliary Machines

You can add supporting machines based on your production scale: seed cleaning sieve, feeding elevator, centrifugal oil filter, oil storage tank, and small filling machine. For tiny family workshops, only a roaster plus an oil press can finish basic oil production.

Simple Steps to Produce Edible Oil In Your Small Workshop

Once you prepare a lerford roaster, oil press, and raw oil seeds, follow these standard steps to make oil continuously:

Step 1: Clean and Sort Raw Seeds

First, clear out dirt, stones, stalks, and metal pieces mixed in oil seeds with a simple vibrating screen. Metal waste will scratch the screw and cage inside the oil press, shortening machine service life. Hard large seeds like coconut and avocado need crushing before roasting.

Step 2: Roast Seeds with Lerford Roaster (Hot Press Process)

Pour cleaned seeds into the roasting pot, set a suitable temperature for different materials:

Rapeseed, sunflower seed: 110℃-120℃

Peanut, sesame: 100℃-115℃

Coconut, palm kernel: 120℃-130℃

Keep stirring while roasting to avoid burnt seeds, and adjust seed moisture to 5%-8%. Roasted seeds release oil much better; oil output can rise 3%-8%, and the oil tastes richer. If you make cold-pressed oil, skip roasting and send clean seeds straight into the oil press.

Step 3: Physical Pressing With Lerford Oil Press

Transfer heated seeds into the oil press feeding hopper. The segmented screw spins and pushes seeds forward. The space inside the pressing cage gradually narrows to build strong squeezing force, breaking seed cells completely. Liquid crude oil flows out through cage gaps and collects in the bottom oil tank, while solid dry cake gets pushed out from the machine tail.

Turn the handwheel at the tail to adjust cake thickness: thinner cake means less residual oil left, thicker cake lets you process more seeds per hour.

Step 4: Filter Crude Oil to Get Finished Cooking Oil

Crude oil directly from the press carries tiny seed residues. Use a centrifugal or cloth bag filter to remove impurities. Filtered oil looks clear and can be filled into barrels or bottles for sale. Dry oil cake can be sold as high-protein animal feed to earn extra income.

Main Factors That Affect Oil Output and Oil Quality

 Oil quality decides your sales and profit. Several key points need daily control during workshop operation:

4.1 Raw Seed Quality

Use fresh, full seeds with little mildew. Seeds with too much moisture or grease will lower oil yield and make crude oil muddy. Seeds high in starch, like soybean and corn, have natural binding features; no extra additives are needed, saving your production cost.

4.2 Roasting Temperature and Moisture

Stable temperature control from the lerford roaster matters a lot. Overheating burns seeds and brings a bitter taste; insufficient heating cannot fully break seed cells and reduces oil production. Keep seed moisture at 5%-8% after roasting for ideal pressing results.

4.3 Machine Maintenance Check

Check the screw, pressing strips, and feeding system of the oil press regularly to avoid wear or blockage. Worn core parts lead to incomplete squeezing, more residual oil, and more residues in crude oil. Clean the pressing cage fully when switching different seeds to prevent mixed flavors.

4.4 Press Pressure and Feeding Speed

Keep a steady feeding speed; adjust the tail gap according to seed types. Feeding too fast causes incomplete squeezing; too slow reduces daily output. Stable screw rotation ensures even oil outflow all the time.

Real Overseas Small Oil Workshop Cases

lerford matching seed roaster and oil press sets have been shipped to Israel, Algeria, and many other countries across the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia. Small workshop owners using our machines all give positive feedback.

Workshops in Israel: Most buyers pick a full stainless steel automatic oil press and a stainless roaster, matching local food safety standards. They mainly produce cold-pressed olive oil and coconut oil, supplying local supermarkets and organic food shops, with repeat orders every year.

Rural workshops in Algeria: Local merchants prefer cost-effective semi-automatic screw oil presses with gas roasters, processing large amounts of sunflower seed and rapeseed for residents' daily cooking oil. The machines run stably every day with low maintenance costs, helping farmers save much money on buying finished oil.

Other international markets: Customers in Nigeria, Malaysia, and Uzbekistan built small oil workshops with our machines to make peanut oil, palm kernel oil, and sesame oil. We provide full English operation manuals and online remote technical support after delivery.

All export machines run full load testing for 72 hours before shipment, packed with moisture-proof film and export wooden cases for long sea transport. Our team offers one-stop service including equipment selection, workshop layout design, machine installation and debugging for global buyers.
